By Alexia Sotiriou

Greece was at the top of global yachting in 2025. Riginos Yachts, a company with years of activity in the sector, presented the official market data for 2025, highlighting Greece as the absolute leader of global yachting.

According to the analysis of the data, Greece occupied the first place internationally in the number of available sailing boats, consolidating its position as a reference point for marine tourism.

World leader in fleet availability

For 2025, Greece achieved world leadership, offering the largest number of boats available for charter and surpassing traditional competitors. With a total of 3,030 available boats, of which 904 are catamarans, Greece leads the international ranking, with Croatia following with 2,531 boats, Italy with 1,282 boats, France with 970 boats and Turkey with 578 boats.

This superiority becomes even more evident in the premium catamaran category, where the Greek fleet significantly outperforms the international competition. According to Riginos Yachts, Greece has almost twice as many catamarans as Croatia, which has 501 catamarans, while Italy follows with 438. France and Turkey are even lower, with 72 and 146 catamarans respectively, confirming Greece’s dominance in the category. The category is constantly gaining ground in charterers’ preferences, offering the comfort, stability and luxury that the modern traveler is looking for.

Travel demand for Greece stable despite the crisis in the Middle East

Bookings from the British market to Greece remain steady, despite ongoing military developments in the Middle East. At the same time, Greece remains the second choice after Spain among short-haul destinations for British Airways Holidays travelers.

This message was broadcast during a British Airways conference entitled “Destination Partnership Day”, which was held at the company’s headquarters at London’s Heathrow Airport on March 12.

Aimed at national tourism organisations, airline partners, and broader industry stakeholders, the event outlined British Airways’ latest updates, commercial focus areas, and strategic plans, and facilitated extensive networking with influential players in the British market.

Developments in the Middle East

During the event, specialized presentations were made by senior executives of British Airways from the areas of sustainability, commercial policy, marketing, operations, strategy and business planning, while there was also the participation of VisitBritain on market trends and the tourism promotion work of the United Kingdom.

Particular reference was made to the effects of the Middle East crisis, which, despite the fact that it has not yet significantly affected the British tourism market, seems to mark a period of ultra last minute bookings pending developments in the international environment.
