Global Goods Converge on Lhasa as Xizang Expo Boosts Holiday
By Meng Fanrong
LHASA, May 6, (China Economic Net)- This year's Labor Day holiday has seen China’s consumption market demonstrate remarkable vitality, with total cross-regional trips nationwide projected to reach 1.52 billion, representing a 4 percent increase compared with the same period last year. Notably, Xizang has emerged as one of the country’s fastest-growing long-haul travel destinations, frequently appearing on travelers’ holiday itineraries lists as tourists increasingly seek authentic and culturally rich experiences. It is against this backdrop that the 2026 Xizang (Lhasa) Sino-Foreign Commodity Exhibition is bringing a vibrant slice of global trade to the plateau.

Running from May 1 to May 6 at the Lhasa Hotel, the six-day exhibition has attracted more than 90 enterprises from over 20 countries, showcasing an array of international products including Indonesian coffee, Iranian saffron, Afghan carpets, Nepalese Thangka paintings, Bhutanese incense and Pakistani handicrafts. The diverse and distinctive offerings provide local residents with a wide range of high-quality consumption options during the busy holiday season, turning the exhibition into a draw for travelers and locals alike.
Among the participants is Aidi, a Pakistani exhibitor attending his seventh trade exhibition in Xizang. This year, he brought onyx handicrafts shipped by sea from Pakistan, featuring a range of colors and varieties, including decorative vases in multiple sizes. “The foot traffic here is excellent,” Aidi said, speaking highly of the exhibition’s economic impact and expressing strong confidence in the platform the event provides for trade and cultural exchange. His presence, along with other international vendors, underscores the growing appeal of Xizang as a destination for global commerce.
Alongside the international exhibitors, 15 local enterprises from the Xizang Autonomous Region are also participating, displaying regional ethnic products such as yak wool, carpets, Xizang-style bags, and copperware.
To further amplify the reach of the event, the exhibition has adopted a hybrid model that combines offline sales and online livestreaming. This approach has helped introduce the plateau’s distinctive resources to the international market, while directing global attention to Lhasa, allowing remote audiences to participate in exhibitions and purchase goods from afar.
